The Boyz from brazil
At the time they had never been to Brazil, but they were adamant that this promise land was part of their “musical DNA”. The duo of PHILIPPE COHEN SOLAL and CHRISTOPH H. MÜLLER, two producers from the electronic sphere, experiment under this alias - a technique that will become their signature.
Teaming with local musicians and running a tape recorder to collect original material that they will use as a matrix to sculpt an oldie meets futuristic soundtrack. The pair worked it out with, among others, Rolando Faria and Luis Antonio de Moraes da Silva, two Paris-based Brazilians who shone in the band “Les Étoiles”.
They put out a series of maxi singles, associating with harmony the melodic candor and rhythmic luxuriance of this country of music.
Between the fragrances of Bachianas Brasileiras dear to Villa-Lobos, collateral homages to Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes and the trepidations of bloques de samba, they gave birth to a double album presenting the duality of their desires: on one aide a cool ambience, a down tempo climate apt to stress their taste for the song format, and on the other an accelerated pace to bring the dance floor to the trance of crushy rhythms.
